New Book, New style

Last week the word for Illustration Friday was savor. I thought a girl drinking hot chocolate in the cold would sum the word up pretty well. I didn't finish this illustration in time to submit it but I really like the results. The style used is almost me. I'm starting to get a good balance between painting and collage. (Practice, practice, practice :O) So this little picture has inspired another book idea!

I'll have more information/illustrations soon. I want to get a few spreads drawn out to make sure my story idea will work out as much as I would like it to.

Burrrrr... cold!

So this is my first project for watercolor wednesday. At first I made a chickadee on a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows but I didn't enjoy it so much. So I took my old chickadee painting, cut a bird out and added snow. Hope you all enjoy!

Burning

My first submission for illustration Friday. I didn't know what to do for the word burning so I choose a girl blowing out birthday candles. I just couldn't stop thinking about cake.

Owl

Here's just a little collage I did. I'm still unsure about it but I figured as long as I collage atleast once a week things will become more comfortable. Maybe I'll make them into a card set :)

Illustration Week

So I think most of us know by now that Mayor Bloomberg announced that the second week of Novemeber is illustration week. Which means lots of fun events at the society. A classmate of mine, Anni will be interviewing me and a handful of other very talented illustrators on her blog all week. Make sure to check it out! :)

Hawk

This is just another try at the collage thing. Ive decided to stay with the bird family untill I become more comfortable with the medium. I did try to have more painting in this one but I guess my mood made the little guy a bit sad looking.

Toucans Love Pancakes

So this is a view into my recent book project. Its about a toucan that loves to cook but is made fun of for his larger then normal nose. Anyways, my issue is deciding what medium to use. This is painting/collage but im uncertain if I should remake it into a watercolor painting. Opinions are appreciated :]

Card

So about a month ago a close cousin of mine sent me a beautiful hand made necklace for my past graduation. I got it a little late but it was perfect timing for me. It became my new luck charm. Anyways here's a card I made for them. I tried to make it as nice as the present.

The first of many

So after writing down multiple ideas for my new children book I have finally found an idea that stuck that I didn't get sick of. Here's the first of many paintings for my new book, "Peanut-butter and jellyfish sandwich with a side of eye balls". About a girl who eats disgusting food such as vegetables and fish but every Friday she makes a sandwich that disgusts everyone in her school. Enjoy!

Finished painting using acrylic, geso, and watercolor on hot press paper.

Drawings

So its been a while since my last post. Fear not, I have kept my promise of new things to come! For now here's a few illustrations done during my science illustration class. I felt like it was a very helpful class and as far as illustration goes it did not get caught up in concept and forget technique. A combination of both can create amazing things. Also I recommend this class to any seniors. My drawings skills became dramatically better and I now use a a range of h, hb, and b pencils when drawing.

A new Chapter

So I've been thinking about the art I do and what I would like it to be. I know I love watercolor as my number one medium but how to use it is the question. I have a few goals for myself.
1. Try and be more colorful
2.A little more action in the quiet way I prefer.
3. Have my art relate more to things I like and think about.
This is why I'm changing my subject matter for a bit. It's a surprise! I'll still be creating illustrations for children but with more nightmare themes. I have ten pages of notes, the start of a painting and thumbnails for a photo shoot. This summer will be productive! In about two weeks i'll change my blog and post a new series of work, hopefully.
Till then, this is a website I recently worked on for my flash class. I hate web design but it really is a good thing to know. By the way this site wont be my main one, I do plan on revising it when more work is available. Who ever might be reading this have a very amazing and fun memorial day weekend.  :)

Book Jackets

Ive been playing around more with hard cover book binding and decided they look better with a glossy dust cover. It was a painful process to put it all together but in the end they look nice. Here's the jackets for now. Soon i'll take some photos of the actual books but I might just wait till survey for that.

It is finally the end of the year and most of my work is complete thankfully. I'm really going to miss having a class with Frederick Brosen. I have to admit, most of my watercolor class was experimenting on my own time but painting in class with a little conversation here and there was much nicer then being a hermit in my room. Sadly i've discovered I love going to class just to take a break from working at my desk. Ether way, if it wasn't for him my paintings would be dull with color as if someone pee'd transparent colors on paper. Anyways, more updates to come! I really want to catch up with the work I have been doing. n.n
